This was a really baffling and dated conversation to listen to as a female teacher. The suggestion for all female students across the country to wear long skirts??? Suggesting girls are giving up their dignity when their cleavage shows? This is major objectification of the girls in your school that you want to be really careful of. If these were teachers on my team it would have been a serious follow up with administration. I hope as an educator that you’ll read an article or two written by a woman on slut shaming and sexual objectification, and hopefully teach the kids about it too, instead of protecting the boys in the class from potential distractions. Educate instead of avoid. Knowledge is power! 🙂 Reply devins on April 13, 2019 at 1:18 pm I understand your POV and maybe a follow up discussion is needed from that perspective and with a female teacher. Personally, the discussion that we had was not about the objectification, but was about how I enforce the rules that the school has in place without looking like I AM objectifying. I completely believe that women should be able to wear whatever they want, feel empowered, and that the males of the school should show respect and self-restraint with those regards. But the rules are set by the school in a way that forces Male teachers to look for and address them constantly in a way that makes me uncomfortable. I’d prefer a more open dress code to any sort of restrictive uniforms, but without either, I just don’t feel right being told how much cleavage is acceptable and what to look out for in order to send them to the office. I appreciate you listening and definitely welcome more input on the topic. Reply Submit a Comment Cancel reply Your email address will not be published.
